DIY Bow T-Shirt

A while back, I saw a post on Viva Luxury with the most adorable bow t-shirt.  I checked out the original, and with a $130 price tag, it was firmly out of my reach.  But, I figured, hey! I can sew some bows on a shirt!  And that's exactly what I did.  Would you like to know how much it cost?  Using a shirt I was going to get rid of and a new spool of ribbon, it was a mere $1.50!

To make your own, you will need:
  • T-shirt
  • Ribbon in a complimentary color
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread to match your ribbon
If you are using a new t-shirt, be sure to wash and dry it before sewing your ribbon on!  Then, cut a length of ribbon slightly longer than one foot.  Cut the ends at an angle to prevent fraying.

Shape the ribbon into a bow (this is basically trial and error until it's even on both sides), but be sure you don't tie the bow too tight!
This is too tight!
This is better :)
Then, attach the bow with a running back stitch just below the collar.  Try and get the thread to follow the lines on the side of the ribbon as much as possible so that the thread doesn't stand out.

Repeat the process, sewing the second bow about 2 inches directly below the first.

Finally, trim the ends of the bows to even them out.

Voila!  I really like mine :)  And I really like the price tag!
